Welcome to Tim the PC Assistant. On this site I will be sharing information on repairing, upgrading, and troubleshooting computers along with internet safety. All the information I give is intended for users from beginner to expert and is intended to give people a better understanding of the components a computer has, what could go wrong and what can be done to take care of the problem.
MY STORY
I got my start in computers in the ’90s by going to college for computer programming. The coursework not only went into programming but had extended to repairing and upgrading PCs. The computer hardware course covered video, audio, and device driver installation.
Later on, I went to an adult career center to get my A+ Certification. I found out that there was much more to a computer than interface cards and drivers. I had to learn how to install memory modules, optical drives and hard drives what cables were used to interface with the main board of the computer and how to connect the devices to the power supply.
WHY I WANT TO HELP PEOPLE
I want to share my PC repair experience with anyone who is interested in getting the most out of their computers. When you learn how to upgrade or repair a computer you are customizing it to your own personal needs. In the long term you are also saving money by doing the repairs or upgrades yourself rather than taking it to a shop which may charge you as much as $40 or more just to look at it.
I would also like to share the pitfalls of personal computer ownership. In so doing, no one will make the mistakes that I have made. Most of my mistakes came from emails and I will gladly share those mistakes so they don’t get repeated. I also encourage discussion and questions as even though I’ve always had a computer even I’m still learning.
THE GOAL OF TimthePCAssistant.com
This site has two goals for the user. The first goal is to teach the user how to troubleshoot and repair a computer. When you have a working knowledge of the inner workings of a computer you will actually be able to fix most problems and avoid expensive repair bills. Most, if not, all components in a computer can wear out over time and having the knowledge on how to replace those components is key to understanding how a computer works.
The last goal of this site is teach users the pitfalls and dangers that are out on the internet. Vigilance is vital because there are people out there who write malware to infect your computer. Knowing what this software does and how to prevent it from getting on your computer will allow a user to experience the internet in the way that it should be experienced.
If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below or by email at tim@timthepcassistant.com and I will be more than happy to help you out.
